Tutoring that
makes the next lesson easier

Wild Grove is a neighbourhood tuition centre for primary, secondary and exam-year students. Groups stay small, tutors stay the same each term, and every lesson starts from what your child actually found difficult last week.

Our approach

Fewer students in the room, more questions answered

Most students do not need a new syllabus. They need someone to notice the exact step where the method stops making sense, and then enough practice to make that step boring. That is the whole plan at Wild Grove.

  • Six students per group. Small enough that a tutor can read every worked answer during the lesson.
  • A settled tutor. Your child keeps the same tutor through the term, so nobody re-explains the backstory.
  • Work that follows school. We plan around the topics being taught in class, not a separate parallel course.
  • A short note home. After each lesson you get a few lines on what was covered and what to practise.

Programmes

Four ways to join a group

Each programme runs as a weekly ninety-minute session during term time, with shorter intensive blocks in the school holidays. Mix two subjects if the timetable allows it.

Maths

Number & method

Arithmetic fluency, fractions, algebra and the written methods that exams expect. Students re-learn the steps they skipped and then rehearse them until they are automatic.

Levels
Years 3–13
Group size
Up to six students
A term covers
One topic strand plus weekly mixed revision
English

Reading & writing

Comprehension, structure and sentence control. We read closely together, then build paragraphs that answer the question asked rather than the one the student hoped for.

Levels
Years 3–13
Group size
Up to six students
A term covers
Two set texts and four marked written pieces
Science

Concepts & practicals

Biology, chemistry and physics taught as explanations rather than lists. Plenty of diagram work, required practical write-ups and the vocabulary mark schemes reward.

Up to six students
A term covers
Two units with end-of-unit review lessons
Exam years

Technique & timing

For Years 10–13: past-paper practice under real timing, mark-scheme reading, and a revision routine that fits around everything else a student has to do that week.

Levels
Years 10–13
Group size
Up to eight students
A term covers
Weekly timed section plus a full paper each half-term

How it works

Three steps to a settled timetable

Nothing is committed until you have seen a lesson and agreed the schedule. Starting is meant to feel reversible.

Step 01

Tell us about the student

Send the enquiry form with the year group, the subject and anything a school report has flagged. We reply with the groups that currently have space.

Step 02

Sit a trial lesson

Your child joins a real group for one session. The tutor makes a short baseline note and tells you honestly whether that group is the right fit.

Step 03

Settle the term plan

We confirm the weekly slot, the topics for the term and how you would like updates. Change the slot later if school clubs or fixtures move.

Our tutors

A small teaching team, each with one or two subjects they stay with all year.

Asha Ferreira

Maths · Years 5–11

Teaches method before shortcuts, and keeps a running list of every step a group has found slippery so it reappears in later practice.

English · Years 3–13

Marks written work in front of the student rather than in private, so the reasoning behind every correction is part of the lesson.

Runs the timed-paper sessions, and is unreasonably fond of making students read the mark scheme before they write anything.

Questions

Before you enquire

Is there a trial lesson?

Yes. Every new student sits one trial session with the group we think suits them. If the fit is wrong, we will say so and suggest a different group or stage rather than enrol anyway.

How are groups put together?

By year group first, then by the topics students need. A group is never mixed so widely that the tutor has to teach two lessons at once.

Can we change the weekly slot mid-term?

Usually. Clubs, fixtures and school trips move, so tell us as early as you can and we will look for an equivalent group with space.

Do you set homework?

A short practice task between lessons, normally twenty to thirty minutes. It is deliberately small, because it has to coexist with school homework rather than compete with it.

How will we know how it is going?

A few lines from the tutor after each lesson covering what was taught and what to practise, plus a longer written review at the end of each term.

Enquiry

Start with a short message

Tell us the year group and the subject and we will reply with the groups that have space, a suggested trial lesson and the fees for that timetable.

What happens next One of our tutors reads the enquiry and replies by email, normally within one working day. There is nothing to pay and no place is held until you have seen a lesson.

We use your message only to answer your enquiry about lessons at Wild Grove.
